Taipei First Girls’ High School Youth Parliament
Taipei First Girls’ High School Youth Parliament (TFGYP), is a student club founded in June 18th, 2010, by a group of TFG students who were passionate about social issues and the future of our country and society. Inspired by the democratic spirit of UK Youth Parliament, we believe that young students should learn to express opinions in a democratic manner, be encouraged to work closely with one another, so as to direct their concerted energy and passion to make real contribution to the society.
At Youth Parliament, we also want to be the voice for our fellow teenagers, and encourage our peers to try to understand real public issues affecting our society. Once becoming socially aware, we hope to help with problem-solving in a real way -- discuss and come up with solutions that we will then put to practice.
In that spirit of true doers, TFG Youth Parliament holds Youth Summit every winter. By organizing this event, we call on High School students from all over the country to come together at the simulated conference. During the 3-day conference, we learn to communicate and debate rationally, trying to reach a consensus and then implement the solution we agree upon to effect changes. Furthermore, we take our club motto “Think globally, act locally“ very seriously. So for a week every year (normally during the second semester), we organize a series of awareness-raising events to promote “No-meat Monday.” We are also keen volunteers, participating in all sorts of voluntary work.
The spirit of TFG Youth Parliament
☆Be Inspired:
Find out about important issues in our daily life and listen to all opinions. Be the voice for the disadvantaged and defend their rights.
☆Observe:
Observe keenly to try to get to the bottom of problems. Research and see if we can learn something from lessons of other countries. Try to find out about laws governing relevant issues, and discuss with affected parties whenever we can.
☆Exchange Ideas:
Discuss and exchange ideas with people who are enthusiastic about the issue in question while practicing critical thinking, effective expression, persuasion, and compromise.
☆Reflect:
Try to reach a consensus after thorough and rational discussions, and learn to put forward solutions.
☆Give Back:
We organize events to promote our ideas, and lobby the government to take us teenager seriously while always trying to be the change we want to see.
